Manchester City step up their pursuit of Dani Olmo

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have intensified their efforts to secure the services of Barcelona star Dani Olmo.

According to a report from Football Insider, Manchester City are stepping up their interest in the services of Dani Olmo following Barcelona’s failed attempt to register him. The Spanish international could be available on a free transfer this month and City are quite attentive to the situation.

After parting ways with Barcelona back in 2014, Olmo returned to his dream club last summer after they struck a big-money move with RB Leipzig. While the Catalan club did agree a deal with the German outfit, they were struggling to register him.

Barcelona’s failed attempts to register Olmo

Eventually, they found a way to get him registered until the end of 2024. While they have tried to register him fully in recent weeks, they haven’t been able to succeed. The Catalan giants are struggling to register him because they can’t meet La Liga’s wage cap.

While they are trying to raise funds by selling VIP seats in their new stadium, nothing has worked out so far. Olmo can choose to trigger his own release and walk away as a free agent as Barcelona haven’t been able to get him registered before the 31st December deadline.

But, for now, the player remains committed to the Catalan club despite all the difficulties. However, things could change quickly if the Spanish giants are not able to find a fix. Multiple top clubs are keeping a close eye on Olmo’s situation and Manchester City are one of them.

Olmo could replace De Bruyne at City

City are believed to have intensified their pursuit of his signature following Barcelona’s failed bid to get him registered. Pep Guardiola’s team are on the lookout for an ideal long-term replacement of Kevin De Bruyne who could part ways with the clubs at the end of the season upon the expiry of his contract.

Amidst interest from the Middle East, there are high chances of him leaving and City want to ensure they have a replacement lined up. Olmo could be just the perfect successor to the Belgian and Guardiola’s team are ready to make the most out of his contract situation.
