Atletico Madrid rival Arsenal, Chelsea in Alexander Isak chase, player happy at Newcastle United

Atletico Madrid are all set to battle it out with Arsenal and Chelsea for the services of Alexander Isak, who is quite happy at Newcastle United.

Alexander Isak’s consistent performances for Newcastle United have put him on the radar of multiple top clubs from across Europe. The Swedish international is quite happy at the Tyneside club but quite a few clubs are looking to prise him away from the Magpies.

According to a report from Fichajes, Atletico Madrid are one of the clubs keen on signing the former Real Sociedad striker. Diego Simeone’s team are looking to prepare for life without Antoine Griezmann and they have identified Isak as a potential replacement.

Isak to replace Griezmann at Atletico?

Griezmann’s contract at Atletico runs until the summer of 2026 but he could choose to switch clubs next summer. While the 33-year-old will take a final call regarding his future by the end of March, Simeone’s team have already started preparing for life without one of their best players.

The Spanish giants want to bring in a world-class forward who can lead the line, score goals and be an x-factor player up top. Isak is one of the names on their radar. He is enjoying life in the English top flight. The 25-year-old has 12 goals and four assists in his 17 league outings.

Isak could be a great addition to their squad but he will cost a fortune as his current market value is in excess of €120 million. Atletico were interested in him back in the day and they could soon reignite their interest in the Swedish star who has been hailed as the best striker in the English top flight.

Best striker in the Premier League

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher was full of praise for the former Sociedad striker on the back of his heroics against Manchester United in their 2-0 win.

While speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher said: “He is the best striker in the Premier League right now, and he is, I don’t think it’s actually close right now, I think he’s the real standout,”

“He’s not just a goalscorer, you’re seeing some of his touches, and I can never forget the first time I saw him play live.

“It was a couple of years ago, maybe two or three years ago at Anfield, very early on in the season, he scored a goal, he ran through, and the thing about him is, when he’s got a chance to score or he’s got to finish, he’s one of those strikers you never expect him to miss, he’s always got that coolness in front of goal.”

Chelsea & Arsenal’s interest, Isak’s stance

Atletico are all set to provide tough competition to both Arsenal and Chelsea who are also keen on the signature of Isak as per a report from TBR. Despite the incredible form of Nicolas Jackson, the Blues want to bring in a new number nine who can compete with him for a place in the starting XI. The Newcastle star has been on their radar for some time.

As far as the Gunners are concerned, they are ready to part ways with Gabriel Jesus and want to bring in a top-class striker to replace. They want a proven goal scorer and Isak could be the perfect fit for them.

While both clubs are keen on his signature, Isak has no intentions of leaving Newcastle in January. He won’t push for a mid-season exit. However, if Newcastle fail to qualify for the Champions League at the end of the season then the story could be a lot different.
