Aston Villa will reportedly look to sign 25-year-old Dutch attacker Donyell Malen from Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund in the winter transfer window.
According to a report by Sky Sports, Donyell Malen is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans have already failed with a bid worth €15 million to sign the Borussia Dortmund attacker. The Bundesliga giants want around €20 million to part ways with the versatile Dutch forward, with Sky Sports also discussing a proposal of €18 million.
Meanwhile, a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football has suggested that intermediaries have offered the Dutchman to several Premier League clubs, including Newcastle United and West Ham United. Bailey has also revealed a higher asking price while claiming that Aston Villa might offer Jaden Philogene in the deal to sign the Borussia Dortmund forward.
Donyell Malen and his muddle
Donyell Malen has blown hot and cold since joining Borussia Dortmund from PSV Eindhoven in July 2021. The 25-year-old has been in and out of the starting lineup at Signal Iduna Park, only showing flashes of brilliance during his stint with the Bundesliga giants.
Malen has struggled for game time this season, not even managing 1,000 minutes of action in 20 appearances thus far while chipping in with five goals and one assist. However, the Netherlands’ international remains sought-after in the market, with Aston Villa among his prospective suitors. Intermediaries have also offered him to Newcastle United and West Ham United.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Aston Villa’s interest in Donyell Malen is understandable. The Villans are scouring the market for a versatile attacker this month, with several candidates, including Nicolas Kuhn, emerging on their radar. However, the Borussia Dortmund forward is also a viable target for Aston Villa, with the West Midlands outfit failing with a bid worth €15 million. They might have also offered €18 million for his services.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United can do with a player like Malen amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Miguel Almiron. As for West Ham, the Dutchman can be a versatile addition to the offensive department amid the East London club’s search for a new striker.
Sky Sports has claimed Borussia Dortmund will demand around €20 million to part ways with the 25-year-old Dutch attacker. So, Aston Villa might not be far from the Bundesliga club’s valuation. So, a winter move might be on the cards for the Netherlands’ international.
