Manchester City not expected to launch January move for Martin Zubimendi

Manchester City have been linked with a move for 25-year-old Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, a target for Real Madrid.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Manchester City are unlikely to launch a move for Real Sociedad in the January transfer window. The Real Sociedad midfielder is reportedly a target for Real Madrid as well. Meanwhile, Newcastle United talisman Bruno Guimaraes is the top long-term target for City.

The Spaniard has a £51 million release clause in his contract, and Manchester City certainly have the financial resources to get the deal across the line. It is no secret that they need more quality and depth in the middle of the park. Signing a midfield controller would be ideal for them.

The Spanish international midfielder has proven himself for club and country, and he has the ability to transform Manchester City in the middle of the park. He will provide defensive cover, control and composure to the side.

Zubimendi was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in the summer transfer window as well. Liverpool were keen on signing the player back then, but the midfielder decided to snub a move to England and stay with Real Sociedad. Meanwhile, Premier League clubs apart from Manchester City have continued to show interest in him.

Real Madrid also want Zubimendi

Real Madrid need midfield reinforcements as well and have their sights set on Martin Zubimendi. They need a quality long-term alternative to club legend, Luka Modric, and Zubimendi would be the ideal acquisition.

The Spaniard has the physicality and technical attributes to thrive at the highest level, and he will be excited about the possibility of playing for some of the biggest clubs in the world. Joining Real Madrid would allow him to continue in his comfort zone as well.

Manchester City’s top midfield target revealed

Meanwhile, the report has claimed that Newcastle United’s star midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is the top long-term midfield target for Manchester City. However, convincing the Magpies to part ways with their talismanic mainstay will be a tall order for Manchester City. Nevertheless, it will not be surprising to see a bid from the Premier League champions in the 2025 summer transfer window.
