Manchester City are looking to steal a march on Dani Olmo owing to his ongoing problems at Barcelona, although a move might be difficult.
According to Fichajes, Manchester City are eyeing a move for Dani Olmo ahead of January. The attacking midfielder could leave Barcelona due to an ongoing issue at the club with his registration, although any move to the Etihad will be extremely complicated.
It’s been barely six months since Barcelona signed Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig, with the Euro 2024 winner signing a six-year deal with the club. Things have been mixed for the attacking midfielder so far at the club, as his form has dipped following a stellar start to life under Hansi Flick.
Even before he could kick the ball for Barcelona, the club were struggling to register him following their financial troubles with La Liga’s FFP rules. Credible reports have suggested the Catalans had to de-register some of their injured stars, like Andreas Christensen and Ronald Araujo, to find space to keep Olmo.
However, the issue has surfaced again in the last few weeks as the defensive duo are closing in on a return from their respective injuries. The spotlight is back on Olmo, as Barcelona has until 31st December to find a solution to the player’s problem and keep him on board.
Olmo’s agent has reportedly held talks with many clubs, although the Euro 2024 winner is reportedly eager to continue with the Catalan side for a long time. The implications of failing to register the player before the said deadline remains to be seen, as there are some clubs like Manchester City keeping close tabs.
Manchester City keeping tabs on Dani Olmo
Pep Guardiola would love to have a player like Dani Olmo in his squad, as the Euro 2024 winner is one of those who understands complex systems and is versatile in his approach. Manchester City would be open to paying decent money for the Spaniard if an offer arrives, although any kove will depend on the player himself.
While a switch to Manchester City will be seen as a step in the right direction, Olmo is not thought to be particularly keen to leave Barcelona. Having only signed six months ago, Olmo wants the Catalans to find a way to register him and continue with life.
