Celtic faces a challenging task in luring Kieran Tierney back to the club, as wages and outside interest could play a part in the chase.
According to Football Insider, Celtic may not have an easy pass on Kieran Tierney next summer, as there are at least two major roadblocks to manouvre. The Hoops are considered favourites to land the Arsenal man as he’s set to leave the Emirates on a free transfer.
Celtic are hopeful of signing Kieran Tierney next summer, especially if the left-back is available on a free transfer. Such is the prospect of the Scotland international that a move back to Celtic Park will be seen as a solid acquisition.
Arsenal have already made their decision to part ways with Tierney, following their call not to trigger a one-year extension in his existing deal. The indication is clear for Tierney to leave the club either in January or, most likely, on a Bosman move next summer.
The Gunners might have sold him last summer had it not been for a serious hamstring injury sustained at the Euros. Tierney joined Arsenal in a £25 million deal back in 2019, but injuries have hampered the latter part of his career at the Emirates.
Celtic are keen on re-signing Tierney, but face two major stumbling blocks, with the first being his high wages. Tierney will certainly demand a higher payday, given his availability on a free transfer that will be seen as a big coup by those in charge of the Hoops.
Outside interest a big stumbling block for Celtic
On the financial point, Celtic are also wary of investing a big sum on a player mired with injury issues of late. While Tierney is keen to return, there are still considerable doubts about his fitness, which may not warrant a high salary package or a long-term deal.
The other big issue on hand is the competition from elsewhere, which will arrive if Tierney keeps fit for the remainder of the season. While there’s a feeling from both parties about reuniting, Celtic will likely take a cautious approach when it comes to signing one of their former stars, even on a free transfer.
