Everton and West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing 24-year-old Georgian striker Georges Mikautadze from beleaguered Ligue 1 club Lyon.
According to a report by Foot Mercato, Georges Mikautadze will be a highly sought-after striker in the January transfer window. Beleaguered Ligue 1 club Lyon will likely part ways with several players next month, and the player is a target for Everton. However, the Toffees face stiff competition from several other clubs for his signature.
A report by AS Roma Live has revealed that the Georgian international is also a target for West Ham United. In addition, AS Roma, Bayer Leverkusen, Bologna, Galatasaray, and Juventus are also keen on signing Mikautadze from crisis-struck Ligue 1 club Lyon next month.
Who is Georges Mikautadze?
Georges Mikautadze has been one of the best attackers in Ligue 1 in the last 12 months. A native of Lyon, the French-born attacker spent his formative years in France but has picked Georgia as his national side. He passed through the academies at four French clubs before graduating from the youth division at FC Metz.
The 24-year-old was a rare bright spot for FC Metz last season and has been solid for Lyon this term, chipping in with seven goals and one assist in 21 appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, Mikautadze’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe, including Everton and West Ham United.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Georges Mikautadze has been on West Ham United’s radar for a long time, and the Hammers mulled over a summer move for the Lyon striker. The continued interest in the player makes sense, even though Niclas Fullkrug has improved in recent weeks. With Michail Antonio out indefinitely, it is understandable why West Ham might pursue Mikautadze.
As for Everton, the Toffees are in a spot of bother over the long-term futures of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto. While the former has yet to sign a new contract with the Merseyside outfit, the latter is unsettled at Goodison Park. So, Mikautadze is an option worth considering for Everton.
