Arsenal not considering winter move for Nico Williams, but might enter the market for Bukayo Saka cover

Arsenal are not thinking about signing Nico Williams as a cover for Bukayo Saka as Mikel Arteta continues to keep a tight lid on January plans.

According to Give Me Sport, Arsenal are not part of the race to sign Nico Williams despite suggestions they are considering the Spanish attacker as a Bukayo Saka cover. Mikel Arteta continues to keep a tight lid on his January plans as talk of a new attacker arriving intensified in the last few days, with Saka picking up a hamstring injury.

Many among the Arsenal fanbase have already urged the club to sign a new striker, although that tune might have changed amid the serious injury to talisman Bukayo Saka. The winger suffered a big hamstring issue in their win over Crystal Palace that will reporteldy keep him out for ‘many weeks’.

The next obvious suggestion is to bring in a viable cover, with a host of top players already linked with the club in a span of few days. Arsenal have already distanced themselves from the Marcus Rashford saga, while Mikel Arteta may not even look to spend big on that Saka cover that the fanbase now want.

In fact, Arteta continues to keep a tight lid on his plans ahead of the January transfer window, as some of his comments gave mixed messages regarding their intention to do business in January. There have been previous links to Antoine Semenyo, and if the Gunners boss is looking for a Premier League-proven, versatile attacker, then the Bournemouth star could be the answer.

Only time will tell whether Arsenal will make a big statement signing to cover for Saka in January, although the signs so far do not indicate any such thing. One more reported target that will not come to the Emirates in the winter market is long-term winger target and 22-year-old Euro 2024 winner Nico Williams.

Arsenal unlikely to sign Williams

Nico Williams was on the radar of many big clubs and could still be a target for those in the January window. He still has a modest-looking release clause, although summer-favourites Barcelona are out of the equation. Arsenal were interested in the 22-year-old Euro 2024 winner, but a January move may not be on the cards.

The idea that Williams is seen as a Saka alternative would only mean that Gabriel Martinelli will play on the right. However, Arsenal are not eager to spend big on the winger just yet, as the Athletic Club winger has had a torrid start to the season, which will not entice the Gunners to pay big for him, especially not in January.
