Chelsea court enquiries for Renato Veiga, January loan exit likely

Chelsea are considering sending their young Portuguese full-back out on loan in January amidst interest from across Europe.

According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Chelsea have received quite a few enquiries about their defensive sensation Renato Veiga. While the Blues consider him an important part of their long-term plans, they are open to a potential loan move in the upcoming transfer window.

Veiga was a part of the Sporting CP youth setup before he made the move to FC Basel in the summer of 2023. An impressive season with the Swiss club put him on the radar of Chelsea, who ended up signing him last summer in a deal worth €14 million.

While the youngster is only 21, he is making quite a name for himself with his impressive performances for the Blues’ first team. Veiga is not a regular in the Premier League, but he has played the entire 90 minutes of all of their UEFA Europa Conference League fixtures and even has two goals and an assist in Europe.

The majority of his appearances for the West London club have come as a full-back. However, he is equally capable of playing anywhere in the centre of the park as well as a central defender when needed.

Will Veiga leave Chelsea in January?

Chelsea are well aware of the fact that they have found a gem in Renato Veiga. However, since he is not yet ready to be a regular starter in all competitions, the Blues are considering sending him out on loan.

Veiga’s impressive performances in Europe have put him on the wishlist of multiple top clubs that wish to reinforce their squad midway through the season. Quite a few clubs have already knocked on Chelsea’s door to learn more about a potential transfer.

They have already made enquiries about a short-term loan deal. While the Blues have no intentions of offloading him on a permanent basis, they are open to a temporary exit as they feel regular first-team action could help him develop at a faster rate.

Even the player’s entourage is open to a loan move away from Stamford Bridge as having more minutes could have a massive impact on his growth. But, it won’t be that easy a decision for the West London club as they are currently in the Premier League title race, and squad depth could play a key role in the second half of the season.
