Premier League clubs keen on signing Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka

Clubs in the English top flight are interested in acquiring the services of Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka.

According to Mick Brown via Football Insider, Premier League clubs are interested in the services of Carney Chukwuemeka. The Aston Villa graduate has had a tough time since moving to Chelsea and he could end up parting ways with the Blues in the upcoming transfer window.

A phenomenal rise to the top along with a few impressive performances during his debut campaign with Villa’s first team helped Chukwuemeka earn a move to the Blues. The London club forked out £20 million to sign him as a teenager.

While the English midfielder has immense potential, the move to Stamford Bridge hasn’t worked out for him. He has featured in a total of 32 matches for the Chelsea first team since joining them in the summer of 2022. The majority of his appearances have come off the bench and he only has 130 minutes of first-team action this season.

The lack of game time has resulted in a lot of talk about his future and the 21-year-old could end up leaving the club in January. Brown has suggested that there is a significant amount of interest in his services.

While speaking to Football Insider, the former Man United and Blackburn chief scout said: “There is definitely interest in January, yes,”

“But I’m told there are doubts among Premier League sides about whether he could make a significant impact given his lack of experience at the top level.

“That’s the thing with a loan move, which this would likely be in January, clubs want immediate impact.

“These teams have been tracking his progress and will have an idea about his current level.

“He didn’t cement himself in Aston Villa’s team, and hasn’t done in Chelsea’s team, but the only way to build that experience is if teams trust him to step up.

“He may be better suited going to Europe where I’ve heard there is some interest.

“It all depends on whether these clubs are willing to take a gamble on him being good enough at the moment to play regular football at the top level.

“There’s no doubt he’s got a lot of potential, but he’s hardly played since leaving Villa.”

A winter exit for Chukwuemeka?

Chukwuemeka is not really an important part of Enzo Maresca’s plans, as a result, the Blues are ready to sanction his departure. They are open to a permanent sale as well as a temporary loan move. While Celtic are one of the clubs who are keen on his signature, they will need significant support from Chelsea to complete a loan deal in the winter.

Apart from the Scottish giants, multiple clubs from the Premier League are interested in signing him. But, Brown feels the major problem is the fact that the 21-year-old has hardly played any first-team football and clubs are not sure about what they will get from Chukwuemeka.

Clubs in England are concerned about his levels. While he surely has the potential, a team that is willing to bet on him will only push for his signature in January as most clubs want someone who can have an instant impact. There are clubs that have been monitoring him closely and they can give him an opportunity to move away from Stamford Bridge and showcase the talent he has.
