Viktor Gyokeres’s departure in the January transfer window is seen as a difficult prospect, which could come as a blow for his Premier League suitors.
According to Give Me Sport, Viktor Gyokeres may stay at Sporting CP at least until the summer as the conditions around the striker could make a January move difficult. Manchester United are among a group of top Premier League sides chasing the Swedish striker, although their chase is set to suffer a blow ahead of the winter market.
Sporting CP will have their hands full during the January transfer window as speculation surrounding Viktor Gyokeres is likely to increase this month. The Swedish forward has once again made a case for himself as one of their lethal centre-forwards in the continent, with 24 goals already to his name this season.
Arsenal are among a group of clubs chasing the striker, while there is also reported interest from Manchester City. The Gunners are eager to bolster their frontline with a top-draw centre-forward, with Gyokeres certainly a player of keen interest to Mikel Arteta.
Chelsea are also keen, as they are probably one of the two clubs in a good position to pay the £85 million needed to trigger Gyokeres’s release clause. While they and Manchester City are the clubs capable of paying up, it is still not a simple matter, as there are plenty of complications, especially with the Premier League’s PSR obligations.
Sporting CP are likely to sell him next summer, but should any interested clubs want him in January, they may be forced to pay the release clause for the £85 million-rated striker. If none of the interested parties manage to conjure up the funds, it will open a summer race for the Swede, with Manchester United likely to target a front row in the hunt.
Manchester United could move for Gyokeres next summer
Manchester United have reporteldy initiated discussions over the signing of Gyokeres, but they do have well-documented financial restrictions that will prevent a big January move of this sort. Hence, the idea of talking about the £85 million-rated Swede with the many parties involved may be a move to keep channels open as well as ensure they are kept updated regarding the striker’s future.
Ruben Amorim’s presence in the Old Trafford dugout could be a big factor, as Manchester United could have a big chance of luring Gyokeres in the future. However, that may happen in the summer; as for now, the new manager may have to keep working with his existing options and then decide in the summer on which players he feels are expendable, as the Red Devils will have to sell before they can buy someone like Gyokeres.
