Manchester United have reportedly initiated discussions for Viktor Gyokeres, and Manchester City are also keen on the Sporting CP star.
According to Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United have initiated discussions over the transfer of Viktor Gyokeres ahead of next summer. Ruben Amorim might have a big say in this move as the striker has performed admirably under the Portuguese, while Manchester City are also a keen admirer of the Swede.
Ruben Amorim would likely push for the signing of star forward Viktor Gyokeres when Manchester United are in a position to make a big move. Sporting CP are currently protected by a mammoth €100 million release clause in the forward’s contract, which will leave them in a strong position during negotiations for the attacker, who has 24 goals already this season.
Manchester United are interested in Viktor Gyokeres, and there are reports that Sporting CP might end up selling him next summer. The Red Devils are facing ample competition in the market, as some of the other Premier League sides like Chelsea and Arsenal have also expressed interest in the past.
Manchester City and Manchester United have scouted him recently, with Pep Guardiola’s side posing the biggest challenge to the Red Devils in the chase. Both clubs have ‘secret weapons’ in the chase, which directly refers to Amorim and incoming Sporting Director Hugo Viana, both formerly and currently at Sporting CP.
Guardiola views Gyokeres’s profile as different to Erling Haaland’s and could use the Swede even in the wide areas as a powerful runner and ball carrier. However, the €100 million release clause will be a point of bother for either side in this race, particularly Manchester United.
Manchester United enter Gyokeres discussions
Manchester United have reportedly opened discussions for Viktor Gyokeres over a potential summer move. Florian Plettenberg has stressed that they might have to conduct sales to accommodate a transfer of this size, meaning there is a chance one of their current strikers could leave during that period.
Manchester United could view themselves in a strong position for Gyokeres due to Amorim’s presence at the club. The Portuguese manager might have been the reason why the 24-goal forwards stayed put at Sporting CP in the summer, and now that he has gone, his own chances of a departure are high.
