Chelsea leading the race to sign Patrick Dorgu

Chelsea are reportedly in the lead for US Lecce talent Patrick Dorgu, and a host of top clubs are eager to sign the winger in January.

According to Caught Offside, Chelsea are leading the race for Patrick Dorgu and are seemingly undeterred by his £50 million asking price. The US Lecce star has come in for heavy demand in the market, as a host of English and Italian sides are looking to sign him, and Tottenham and Crystal Palace are also keen.

Chelsea are showing signs of having another aggressive window ahead of January. The Blues put on a show during the summer, with some stellar signings making their way into Stamford Bridge. Despite signing some top attacking talents like Jadon Sancho, Pedro Neto and Joao Felix, they are in for another final third player, with Patrick Dorgu their top target.

The US Lecce star has been in good form for the Serie A side, and there were reports stating he preferred to stay in Italy rather than move out of the country. His stance might have changed following a number of clubs expressing interest, as Crystal Palace and Tottenham were among those keen.

Palace does offer him a good role at the club, although the Eagles are far from the stature of the likes of Chelsea or Tottenham. The north London side are interested, as Ange Postecoglou views him as a good enough addition, but the competition from the Blues may prove difficult to beat at this point.

US Lecce reportedly wants £50 million, which is staggeringly more than previously reported. The price point does not deter Chelsea, as they are willing to invest to sign one of the exciting young talents in Serie A.

Chelsea and Dorgu are a good fit together

Chelsea has aggressively achieved its targets in the market as it continues to seek out and sign some of the top young talents. The club has paid what’s necessary to beat off competition and will continue on the path to building its squad for the future.

Dorgu could be a good fit for Chelsea as he has the age and the profile to match the club’s ambition and ideas. Should he come in, then the 20-year-old will provide direct competition for the likes of Noni Madueke, while his ability to play in a full-back role is also likely to come in handy for Chelsea.
