Newcastle United looking to steal a march on Chelsea, Manchester United for Geovany Quenda

Newcastle United are aiming to gain an edge over Manchester United and Chelsea in the pursuit of Geovany Quenda’s signature.

Geovany Quenda has made quite a name for himself with his impressive performances for Sporting CP’s first team. He finds himself on the wishlist of some of the biggest clubs in Europe and soon there could be a bidding war for his signature.

Newcastle United, Manchester United and Chelsea are three English clubs that want to sign the Portuguese attacking sensation. According to a report from CaughtOffside, the Magpies are showing clear intent to step up their interest as they want to beat United and the Blues to his signature.

Quenda joined the Sporting youth setup in 2019 from Benfica. He has gone up the ranks at some pace and was promoted to their first team ahead of the 2024/25 season. The 17-year-old right-winger has featured in 18 matches for them and has even contributed towards four goals (2 goals, 2 assists).

While he is currently a part of the Portugal Under21s, the teenager could soon get his first cap for the national team given the kind of progress he has made in recent months. Quenda’s contract at Sporting might run until the summer of 2027 but he is not expected to be around for long.

Newcastle are looking to win the race for Quenda

There is no shortage of interest in his signature and Newcastle have emerged as a potential destination for the youngster. Eddie Howe seek more quality in the final third of the pitch and they could look to invest in the Portuguese sensation who can help them in the short as well as the long run.

The Magpies could soon step up their interest in him as they want to steal a march on the likes of United and Chelsea. The Red Devils have been heavily linked with the teenager in recent weeks following the appointment of former Sporting boss Ruben Amorim.

While the Manchester-based club have a long-standing interest in Quenda, the Amorim card only helps their cause. Meanwhile, he perfectly fits into Chelsea’s new transfer policy that revolves around signing the best young players in the world.

They are already home to some of the best talents in world football and are now looking to add the Sporting sensation to their ranks. While Newcastle are looking to steal a march on their rivals, they are not going to find it easy to sign him as he has a €100m release clause and Sportng won’t let him leave on the cheap.
