Barcelona and Bayern Munich are reportedly ahead of Real Madrid in the race to secure the services of 28-year-old Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah.
According to an update by reputed German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid are interested in signing Jonathan Tah next year. However, the reigning La Liga champions are behind the Blaugrana and the Bundesliga giants in the race to secure the services of the 28-year-old Bayer Leverkusen defender.
Jonathan Tah has reached a crossroads in his career after entering the final nine months of his contract with Bayer Leverkusen. A veteran of the Bundesliga, the experienced defender has enjoyed an upturn in fortunes under the tutelage of Xabi Alonso, becoming one of the best defenders in the German top flight in the last 24 months.
The 28-year-old has turned out over 350 times thus far for Bayer Leverkusen while chipping in with 15 goals and 12 assists. However, Tah’s spell with the Bundesliga champions will end next year after confirming he will not sign a new deal with Die Werkself. The situation has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid.
Barcelona will likely dip into the market for a centre-back in the 2025 summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Andreas Christensen. In addition, Inigo Martinez is in the twilight of his career. So, Tah has emerged as a viable target for Barcelona.
Meanwhile, Plettenberg has claimed that Barcelona and Bayern Munich are the likeliest destinations for Jonathan Tah, who will not leave Bayer Leverkusen in the January transfer window. Bayern Munich’s interest is understandable, considering Eric Dier faces an uncertain future at the Allianz Arena.
