Tottenham rival Chelsea in Illia Zabarnyi chase

Tottenham and Chelsea are eager to make a move for Illia Zabarnyi ahead of January, with Bournemouth demanding at least £50 million.

According to Caught Offside, Illia Zabarnyi emerges as a key defensive target for Tottenham and Chelsea ahead of the January market. The Ukranian has been fantastic for Bournemouth, as a new contract signed back in the summer has the Cherries demanding at least £50 million to let the centre-back leave.

Andoni Iraola is certainly making a big mark in the Premier League this season. He has continued his good work with Bournemouth from the previous campaign into the new one. The Cherries may currently sit in 12th place, but they are only four points off third spot. They have had a fantastic start to the term with home victories over Arsenal and Manchester City.

One of the critical elements to Iraola’s side has been the defensive displays, as Illia Zabarnyi and Marco Senesi have made the backline stronger than ever. The former has been a consistent performer since his arrival in January 2023, and his form has already landed him a new contract, which he signed in the summer until 2029.

Bournemouth are aware of the interest in the Ukranian defender and will demand at least £50 million to let him leave. The Cherries are not opposed to a sale but will not be deterred by a low offer, meaning the 22-year-old will not come cheap for interested parties within the Premier League.

Chelsea have been interested in the defender despite having a good enough backline and depth. The Blues could potentially make space for the Ukrainian by axing Benoit Badiashile and bringing Zabarnyi into an environment of intense competition for places in central defence.

Tottenham to rival Chelsea for Zabarnyi

While Chelsea may represent a significant opportunity for any player eager to thrive at a big club, Tottenham are not very far off. Spurs are in the market for a defensive signing and may consider investing in the £50 million-rated Premier League defender.

Spurs do not have Chelsea’s defensive depth, which makes it rather straightforward for a player like Zabarnyi to compete and claim a place. Tottenham also has the budget to make this signing a reality, and they have good relations with Bournemouth following the recently concluded record transfer of Dominic Solanke.
