Ipswich Town make approach for Carney Chukwuemeka, Chelsea green-light sale

Chelsea are reportedly prepared to sanction Carney Chukwuemeka’s departure, with Ipswich Town enquiring about his availability.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Chelsea have made a decision on the future of Carney Chukwuemeka. The Blues are ready to sanction the departure of the English youth international, who seems to be surplus to requirements. Ipswich Town have enquired about his availability as they look to sign him in January.

Chukwuemeka came up the ranks at Aston Villa. The Englishman got promoted to their first team back in the summer of 2021. On the back of his performances for their senior side and his impressive rise, the Blues signed him in the summer of 2022 in a deal worth £20 million.

While 21-year-old was considered a huge prospect, and the London club had hoped we would become an important first-team player with time, things have not gone according to plan. The young midfield prospect was out injured for the majority of the 2023/24 season and seems to have gone way down the pecking order under Enzo Maresca.

The Italian boss has had an exceptional start to life in England. Chelsea sit third in the Premier League, and they will look to further reinforce their squad in the winter. They seek more quality at the back and in order to sign players at the turn of the calendar, the Blues are looking to sanction the departure of the players, who are no longer an important part of their first team.

Ipswich Town could land Chukwuemeka in January

Carney Chukwuemeka is no longer important to their plans. He has only played 49 minutes of first-team football this seasonm and the West London club are ready to part ways with the rarely-used English midfield prospect. He could end up joining Ipswich Town, who have knocked on the doors of the Blues to learn more about a potential transfer.

The newly-promoted Premier League outfit are 17th on the points table. So, the Tractor Boys want to ensure they stay in the English top flight and are looking to add more quality to help Kieran McKenna get the job done. With Chelsea ready to sell Chukwuemeka, Ipswich Town have been altered on the situation and they have started laying the groundwork.

Ipswich Town want to add Carney Chukwuemeka to their squad in January and could get him for a cut-price fee as Maresca’s team are desperately looking to get the 21-year-old off their books. While they wanted around £40 million for him in the summer, they will most likely let him leave for a much lower figure.
