Barcelona run rule over Alexander Isak

Barcelona reportedly scouted 25-year-old Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak in the Magpies’ Premier League game against Nottingham Forest this past weekend.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Alexander Isak is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Blaugrana dispatched scouts to watch the Newcastle United striker in the Premier League game against Nottingham Forest this past weekend. Meanwhile, the Swedish international is also a target for Arsenal and Chelsea.

Alexander Isak and his progress at Newcastle United

Alexander Isak has gone from strength to strength since joining Newcastle United from Real Sociedad in a big-money deal in August 2022. While the Swede has endured fitness issues throughout his spell with the Tyneside outfit, he has justified the significant outlay with his exploits on the pitch.

The 25-year-old has proven his credentials again this season, amassing five goals and two assists in 11 appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, Isak’s progress in the last two years has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Barcelona.

A man in demand

Widespread reports have suggested that the Swedish striker is the “dream target” for Arsenal. While a winter move might not see the light of day, he is a viable target for the North London club, considering Gabriel Jesus has not been prolific. In addition, Mikel Arteta has used Kai Havertz in multiple roles, necessitating the addition of a new striker for Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s interest in Alexander Isak is understandable. The Blues are keen on signing a prolific striker after failing to land Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window. While Nicolas Jackson has been excellent thus far this term, Enzo Maresca prefers multiple options for every position, making the Newcastle United forward a viable target for Chelsea.

As for Barcelona, Erling Haaland is the top target. However, with Manchester City likely to ask for an arm and a leg to part ways with the Norwegian international, the Catalan giants have kept their options open, with Isak emerging as an alternative. The Blaugrana also scouted the Swede in the Premier League game between Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest last weekend.

Newcastle United will not let Isak go for cheap either, meaning Barcelona might be in a spot of bother in the race to secure his services. It will be interesting to see if the Blaugrana can beat Arsenal and Chelsea to the signature of the 25-year-old Swedish international.
