Ruben Amorim has gentleman’s agreement with Sporting CP regarding Viktor Gyokeres and Geovany Quenda

Ruben Amorim has a gentleman’s agreement with Sporting CP that Manchester United won’t pursue Viktor Gyokeres and Geovany Quenda in the winter.

According to a report from The Mirror, Manchester United are interested in the services of Viktor Gyokeres and Geovany Quenda but they won’t be making a move to sign either of the Sporting CP attackers in the winter as their new boss has a gentleman’s agreement with the Portuguese outfit.

United parted ways with Erik ten Hag following a poor start to the season. In search of a new boss, they knocked on the doors of Sporting and managed to strike a deal to appoint Amorim as their manager. They paid significant compensation to get a deal over the line.

Amorim will officially take charge as the new United manager on Monday (11th November). Following his arrival at the club, there has been a lot of talk about the Manchester giants entering the winter market to bolster their squad.

United won’t raid Sporting in January

They have been linked with quite a few of Amorim’s former players. Sporting CP’s ace Viktor Gyokeres is the first name on their wishlist. While they do have two young strikers in their squad neither of them have been consistent enough in the final third of the pitch.

Meanwhile, the Swedish sensation has been scoring goals for fun and he is on the radar of quite a few top clubs. While United would love to sign him in the winter, their new boss Amorim has given Sporting his word that the Reds Devils won’t raid them in January for their most valuable assets.

With United all set to take a back seat during the winter window, Manchester City, Arsenal and PSG who are keen on signing the 26-year-old could end up making the most out of the situation. Amorim’s gentleman’s agreement could prevent the Manchester-based club from signing one of the best forwards in the world.

This would also prevent them from making a move for 17-year-old attacking sensation Geovany Quenda. The young Portuguese winger has been on their wishlist for some time and they have been monitoring his progress before they swooped to bring Amorim to the club.

The teenager is an exciting prospect and with United not in the race until next summer other interested clubs could look to cash in on the opportunity. Meanwhile, Gyokeres has a £85million release clause which is a touch on the higher side and it will be interesting to see if any interest club tries to make a move for him in the winter.
