Manchester United and Real Madrid are both interested in signing former Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante in January.
According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, N’Golo Kante could potentially make a return to Europe at the turn of the calendar as Real Madrid and Manchester United are both keen on acquiring his services. He might be in the final phase of his career, but the French international could still be a great addition to both team’s midfield departments.
Kante had a sensation rise to prominence because of his performances at Leicester City during the 2015/16 season. He managed to place himself on the wishlist of quite a few top clubs, and Chelsea eventually ended up signing him in the summer of 2016.
The Frenchman did wonders for the Blues helping them win the Champions League and also lifting the World Cup with his national team. After a successful stint in Europe, he became a part of the football revolution in Saudi Arabia in the summer of 2023.
Kante could return to Europe in January
N’Golo Kante could make a return to Europe at the start of 2025, as Real Madrid and Manchester United are both keen on securing his signature. The French midfielder was a part of the French squad for Euro 2024, and his performances suggest that he could still do a great job in the best leagues in the world despite being 33.
Apart from his work at the European Championships, Kante has also been a consistent performer for Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League. Both Real Madrid and Manchester United believe that he still has a few years left at the top, and they are looking to bring him back in January.
Los Blancos seek an experienced campaigner in the centre of the park, while the Red Devils want more quality in midfield, with Casemiro expected to part ways with the club in the near future. Kante’s contract at the Saudi club runs until the summer of 2026, and a potential deal will involve significant financial investment.
While Al-Ittihad’s initial asking price was €20 million, it has dropped down to €15 making things easier for interested clubs. But, N’Golo Kante is on a very high salary of €14 million per year, which could complicate things.
