Chelsea are looking to sanction the departure of two of their stars to fund a move for Atletico Madrid midfield sensation Pablo Barrios.
Pablo Barrios’ exceptional rise at Atletico Madrid has caught the attention of Chelsea. The Premier League outfit are keen on acquiring his services and according to a report from Fichajes, the Blues are ready to sell two of their players to fund a January move for the Spanish youth international.
Barrios has come up the ranks at Atletico. He has been a part of their first team since the start of 2023 and has only gone from strength to strength over the last 18 months.
The 21-year-old already has 69 appearances for their first team and has even contributed towards seven goals. While he has struggled with a muscle injury in the 2024/25 season, Barrios has started the majority of the games that he has been available for.
The young central midfielder has made quite a name for himself with his performances. His ability to control the tempo and his creativity make him a special talent who is on the wishlist of some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
Chelsea making moves to sign Barrios
Chelsea are one of the top clubs that want to sign the youngster. They want to strengthen their midfield and he seems to be an ideal fit for their system as well as their transfer policy that focuses on signing the best young players.
The Blues want to prise him away in January and to finance the move, the London club are looking to sanction the departure of Carney Chukwuemeka and Cesare Casadei who were both added to their squad in the summer of 2022. Neither of them have been able to establish themselves in their first-team.
Now, Chelsea are looking to cash in on them to free up space for the arrival of Barrios. While Atletico have no intentions of selling their young sensation, the Blues are looking to test their resolve by putting forward an offer worth €60 million.
