Santiago Castro is attracting big interest from Premier League sides, although Bologna are unlikely to sell the Argentine striker in January.
According to Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness, Santiago Castro will not leave Bologna in January despite growing interest from Premier League sides. Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Everton are all thought to keep tabs on the Argentine following a good start to life in Serie A.
Santiago Castro, a player in demand
It’s not unprecedented for teams to invest heavily in young South American talents, but Bologna might have taken a risk that is paying off now. Santiago Castro arrived from Velez Salsfield in a €12 million deal last January, but he was not seen as the immediate replacement for Manchester United star Joshua Zirkzee.
Instead, Bologna spent around €15 million to sign Toulouse forward Thijs Dallinga, although it’s Castro who seems like the replacement for the Dutchman. The 20-year-old Argentine attacking sensation has been scoring with regularity of late, which has caught the attention of Premier League sides.
Among those showing an interest, the likelihood of those sides approaching in January is remote. For instance, Arsenal are named as a suitor, but they might stick to their guns in the winter window, although Benjamin Sesko remains their primary target.
Similarly, Chelsea are reportedly keen, but they have other targets in mind, although Enzo Mresca seems content with his options at the moment. They do hold an interest in Victor Osimhen, although a January approach for the Nigerian seems unlikely. Aston Villa might have chosen to continue keeping tabs, but the recent renewal of Jhon Duran’s contract will not see the club search for a new striker.
Bologna unlikely to sell in January
Bologna might look at the growing interest in Castro and could think about making a profit on their investment from a year ago. However, they are unlikely to sell him in January, especially if he continues on his impressive form and goes on to have a good season.
Everton might be the only realistic suitor that could make a bid for the 20-year-old Argentine attacking sensation. However, the Toffees are not planning to part ways with either Beto or Dominic Calvert-Lewin, meaning they could struggle to sign a new forward despite the duo coming into January with a delicate contractual situation.
