Chelsea are reportedly unlikely to make a move for Nigerian attacking sensation Victor Osimhen in the January transfer window.
According to a report from Football Insider, Chelsea remain interested in securing the services of Victor Osimhen. But they are unlikely to pursue his signature when the transfer window reopens in January. The Blues will have to wait until next summer because of Financial Fair Play and Profit and Sustainability Rules concerns.
The Blues were keen on signing a number nine during the summer. They wanted to bring in a world-class striker to end their struggles in the final third of the pitch and Napoli’s Osimhen was at the top of their wishlist.
Unfortunately, they could not strike a deal with the Italian outfit for the 25-year-old striker. Osimhen had already fallen out with the club’s hierarchy and manager Antonio Conte. He did not want to play for them and to ensure he did not miss the first half of the season, the former LOSC Lille star ended up joining Galatasaray on a season-long loan.
Chelsea will have to wait until the summer for Osimhen
Osimhen could still secure a permanent move away from Napoli in the winter as his loan spell has a break clause. More importantly, he had a break clause worth £68 million inserted in his deal before he made the move to Turkiye.
While the Nigerian international will be available for a decent price in the winter and Chelsea remain keen on his signature, they won’t be able to get their hands on their top target. The Blues have made an excellent start to life under Enzo Maresca, and their forwards have been doing an excellent job.
But, the London club still want a world-class forward to help them take the next step. They will have to wait until next summer to make it happen. While everything seems to be in Chelsea’s favour, a potential deal remains difficult for the Blues because of Financial Fair Play and Profit and Sustainability Rules concerns.
They have spent a fortune in recent windows, and their books are not balanced, making it difficult to sign Osimhen for £68 million and then pay his lofty wages. With Chelsea unlikely to seal a move, other clubs could try to lure him during January.
