The French centre-back is a big name on the list of multiple clubs. But signing him from RB Leipzig might prove challenging for anyone chasing the defender.
RB Leipzig made the big decision to splash €30 million on a promising talent like Castello Lukeba a year ago as a replacement for Manchester City-bound Josko Gvardiol. The decision to sign the former Lyon talent proved correct, as Lukeba has made himself a big star at the Bundesliga side.
Leipzig, for their part, knows they may not be able to hold on to the player for longer. But they might stand firm in January if offers come pouring in. Aston Villa hold an interest, as they are not plotting a winter window bid for the French defender.
Unai Emery’s side are hatching a ploy to beat off competition for the player coveted by some of the biggest sides. Real Madrid have monitored him for some time, and the lure of joining the Spanish giants will push the likes of Aston Villa or any other team away.
Chelsea are also in the mix for Lukeba, although all of those interested sides could baulk at RB Leipzig’s £60 million asking price for the defender. The Bundesliga giants are more than determined to make a big profit from the sale of the defender and will ideally demand an even bigger fee if there were January offers.
Aston Villa may not be able to afford Lukeba
The idea of warding off competition for Lukeba with a January bid might still give Aston Villa an upper hand, considering all other suitors may wait until the summer to make their moves. However, the price point of the Bundesliga defender could prove difficult for Aston Villa to comprehend as this is a big investment for their liking.
Moreover, they do have options in Lukeba’s position, which makes the need to sign the RB Leipzig star an urgent one. However, aston Villa have surprised many with their negotiation skills in the past and might pull off a wonderful agreement in January if they are intent on signing Lukeba.
