Arne Slot wants to reunite with the 23-year-old SL Benfica midfielder at Anfield. The Reds have expressed interest in the former Feyenoord captain, who thrived under Slot at the Dutch club.
The rise and rise of Orkun Kokcu
Orkun Kokcu has taken to SL Benfica like a fish to water, going from strength to strength at the Portuguese club in the last 12 months. Born in the Netherlands, he has represented Turkiye in international football while serving Feyenoord as the club captain for a few seasons.
However, Kokcu’s long and fruitful spell with Feyenoord ended in July 2023, as he joined Benfica. The 23-year-old has been a mainstay in the middle of the park for the Portuguese outfit. He has contributed to seven goals in nine appearances across all competitions thus far this season by finding the back of the net four times and providing three assists.
Meanwhile, Orkun Kokcu’s progress at SL Benfica has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Liverpool mulled over signing the Turkish international in the summer transfer window, and the Reds remain keen on securing his services next year.
