Manchester City in three-way battle to sign Theo Hernandez

Manchester City will reportedly compete with Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain for 27-year-old AC Milan full-back Theo Hernandez.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Theo Hernandez is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Premier League champions are scouring the market for a left-back and have set their sights on the AC Milan star. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on signing the 27-year-old from the Serie A club.

The rise and rise of Theo Hernandez

Theo Hernandez has established himself as one of the best full-backs in Serie A since joining AC Milan from Real Madrid in July 2019. The Frenchman could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad at the Santiago Bernabeu but has gone from strength to strength at San Siro in the last half a decade.

The 27-year-old has turned out 222 times thus far for AC Milan while chipping in with 31 goals and 41 assists. However, Hernandez faces an uncertain future at the Serie A club as he will enter the final 18 months of his contract in January, with talks between the two parties not progressing much.

Meanwhile, the French international defender’s situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Manchester City. In addition, the former Real Madrid full-back is a target for Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

A man in demand

Manchester City’s interest in Theo Hernandez is understandable. Pep Guardiola does not have a recognised left-back in his squad, with Josko Gvardiol and Nathan Ake featuring in the position. So, it is hardly surprising the Premier League champions want a left-back, with Sergio Gomez recently emerging as a target. However, Hernandez is also an option worth considering for Manchester City.

As for Bayern Munich, Alphonso Davies might depart from the Allianz Arena next summer, with Real Madrid and Manchester City vying for his signature. So, Hernandez is a viable target to replace Davies. Meanwhile, PSG will look for a top-notch competitor for Nuno Mendes, with the AC Milan full-back an option worth considering.

Manchester City will not have it easy in the race to secure Theo Hernandez’s services. However, it will be interesting to see if they can beat Bayern Munich and PSG to the 27-year-old French international next year.
