Aston Villa set asking price for Jhon Duran

Jhon Duran will cost more than double his summer asking rate as Aston Villa formulates a plan to ward off suitors.

According to Team Talk, Chelsea will have to pay at least £80 million if they wish to sign Jhon Duran in January. The asking price set by Aston Villa appears to be double what they were reportedly demanding over in the summer, with the asking rate likely to increase further if the Colombian continues on his impressive form.

The name of Jhon Duran must have echoed in the streets of Birmingham on Wednesday night following Aston Villa’s stunning victory against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. The 20-year-old in-form Aston Villa star was the protagonist of the occasion, as he slotted the winning goal past the experienced Manuel Neuer to gift the supporters a spectacular way to open their home account in the competition.

Duran has been the subject of intense transfer speculation throughout the summer and into the season. The striker has not managed to convince Unai Emery of a place in the starting lineup, although the Basque manager’s tactics of using the Colombian as a bench option have worked wonders so far.

All four of his goals have come off the bench, with three of those proving to be winners. He added a fourth such winner against Bayern, and his displays are expected to increase the interest of suitors. Aston Villa had set a stance of not selling him ahead of January, although the Colombian continues to attract the admiration of clubs like Chelsea and West Ham keen on signing him.

Chelsea are keen on the forward, and might have seen late approaches turned down by Aston Villa late in the summer window. West Ham are also interested in signing him, but now, the Birmingham-based side are open to selling him but for a price they have set on the 20-year-old in-form striker.

Aston Villa want £80 million or more for Duran

West Ham were the team that came very close to signing the striker, with Duran himself signalling an intent to join them by posting a Hammers hand sign on Social Media. However, it is believed that Villa wanted around £40 million, with the Hammers only coming up with £30 million or £35 million for the forward, which ensured he stayed in Birmingham.

Now, Villa have more than doubled that asking price, as they are seeking at least 80 million for the Colombian forward. Should the 20-year-old in-form Aston Villa star continue on his impressive form, the club believe they can demand as much as £100 million, which will surely put off any of his suitors ahead of the January window.
