Manchester City in transfer tussle to sign Dusan Vlahovic

Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing 24-year-old Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic from Serie A club Juventus.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Dusan Vlahovic is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Premier League champions only have one striker in the first-team squad and want another option to rest and rotate Erling Haaland. So, the 24-year-old Juventus striker has emerged as a target for the English giants.

Dusan Vlahovic and his journey at Juventus

Dusan Vlahovic has blown hot and cold since joining Juventus from Fiorentina in January 2022. The Serb arrived at the Allianz Stadium as one of the best attackers in Serie A after his exploits with La Viola. However, he has not continued in that vein during his spell with the Bianconeri in the last two and a half years.

However, the 24-year-old has been hot off the blocks in the first few weeks of the 2024/25 season, amassing four goals and one assist in seven appearances across all competitions. But Vlahovic’s long-term future at Juventus is uncertain after entering the final two years of his contract.

While the Serie A giants are scrambling to secure an agreement over a long-term contract with the Serbian striker, the negotiations have not progressed much. So, Juventus might cash in on Vlahovic next year, with the situation capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Manchester City.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Manchester City’s interest in Dusan Vlahovic is understandable. The Premier League champions have only one striker in the first-team squad after parting ways with Julian Alvarez in the summer transfer window. So, Pep Guardiola does not have an alternative to Erling Haaland in his group.

The Premier League champions have thus shown interest in several strikers, including Kyogo Furuhashi. However, Vlahovic is also a viable target, considering Haaland is a target for a few European bigwigs. Meanwhile, Manchester City should have the funds to match or better the Serbian striker’s €12 million-a-year wages.

However, Manchester City will face stiff competition from Atletico Madrid for the 24-year-old Juventus striker next year. So, it will be interesting to see if the English giants can beat the competition to the Serb’s signature.
