Manchester City keen on Hakan Calhanoglu

Manchester City are interested in acquiring the services of Inter Milan midfield star Hakan Calhanoglu, willing to offer Mateo Kovacic in an attempt to get it over the line.

Manchester City have one of the best squads in all of Europe. They have an all-bases covered team but an injury to Rodri seems to have shifted the balance. Pep Guardiola’s team are now looking to reinforce their midfield midway through the season. They are interested in the services of Hakan Calhanoglu and according to a report from Interlive, City are willing to submit a part exchange offer to secure his services.

Calhanoglu was known for his ability to take on defenders and his exceptional dribbling abilities back in the day. But, he has transitioned himself into a midfield genius who is capable enough to feature in any role. The 30-year-old has only gone from strength to strength since making the move from AC Milan to rivals Inter in the summer of 2021.

He has established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders and played a big part in their Serie A success last season. His consistent performances have put him on the wishlist of Manchester City. Calhanoglu who still has close to three years left on his deal was linked with a move away during the summer but Inter had no intentions of sanctioning his departure.

City want to sign Calhanoglu

But, that could change in the winter as City look to prise him away. Rodri has been the go-to man for Guardiola in the centre of the park. The Spanish midfielder ruptured a ligament in his right knee during the game against Arsenal. He is all set to be out for a long while, as a result, the English club are looking for an ideal replacement.

Calhanoglu might be 30 but he is one of the few players who can help City. As a result, they are considering submitting a player plush cash deal to acquire his services. They are ready to include Mateo Kovacic in the operation. A possible return for the former Real Madrid star could be exciting news for Inter fans.

They are willing to offer another €30 million along with the Croatian international who is valued at around €25 million. While the offer will surely make Inter think twice, they are unlikely to accept it as the player is way too important to their plans and they won’t want to lose him in January.
