Manchester United rival Barcelona in Nico Williams chase

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United are all set to battle it out with Barcelona for the services of Athletic Club sensation Nico Williams.

There was a significant amount of interest in Nico Williams during the recently concluded summer transfer window. Barcelona were considered the favourites to sign the Spanish international but he ended up staying at Athletic Club.

The Catalan giants remain interested in the Spanish international. But according to a report from Fichajes, they have a new competitor in Manchester United. The Premier League outfit are all set to battle it out with Barcelona for the services of the UEFA Euro 2024 winner.

Nico Williams has only gone from strength to strength since getting promoted to their first team back in 2021. At just 22, he is already a mainstay for both club and country. The left winger has made a name for himself with his consistent performances. So, he is unlikely to continue at Athletic Club for long.

The Spaniard’s contract might run until the summer of 2027, but there are high chances of him making the move to a bigger club next summer. Williams’s ability to take on defenders, his pace along with his creativity make him a special player that clubs do not want to miss out on.

Barcelona to face competition from Manchester United for Williams

Barcelona might have failed to sign him in the summer. But, the Blaugrana are still in the mix as Hansi Flick seeks more firepower on the flanks. With Lamine Yamal on the right and Williams on the left, the Spanish giants could have an exceptional attacking force for the long run.

While they had positioned themselves as front-runners for his signature, the Catalan giants will face serious competition from Manchester United. The emergence of the Red Devils will complicate things. They seek a wide player with Williams’s characteristics and are willing to go all out to sign him.

Erik ten Hag’s team could make an offer that could push Barcelona to the back seat. As a result, this transfer battle will surely be one to watch out for. He reportedly has a €58 million release clause in his contract which means it might depend on the wages that are being offered, and Manchester United surely have a much better financial situation which could play to their advantage.
