Chelsea set to remain patient with Romeo Lavia despite exit rumours

Chelsea are set to stay patient with Romeo Lavia despite his injury issues, as they are not planning to sell the midfielder anytime soon.

According to Fabrizio Romano on Caught Offside, Chelsea are not planning on selling Romeo Lavia and will remain patient with the progress of the midfielder. The Belgian has suffered a series of injuries that have hampered his progress since his move to Stamford Bridge, as the Italian transfer expert quashed exit rumours.

Romeo Lavia signed for Chelsea in controversial circumstances and during a summer when the Blues also splashed more than £100 million on Moises Caicedo. Sticking with the Belgian, the former Southampton star was chased by Liverpool during the entire summer of 2023.

Chelsea made sure they pipped Liverpool right at the death with an offer that favoured Southampton as well as Lavia. However, his time here has been marred by injuries, as Lavia only played one game, amounting to 32 minutes last season for the Blues in the Premier League.

At the start of the present campaign, the midfielder had turned a corner as new boss Enzo Maresca started him against Chelsea, and he lasted for 67 minutes. However, since then, Lavia has featured in a Conference League qualifier against Servette for around 6 minutes and has not featured since with a fresh hamstring injury.

Those are worrying signs from a Chelsea perspective, as they wanted to see how the midfielder fares at the club. However, of late, there have been a few rumours of Lavia leaving the club, with suggestions that the club are losing faith. However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has quashed those rumours and insisted that Chelsea are set to stary patient and allow the 20-year-old midfielder plenty of time to evolve.

Romano said, “Sticking with Chelsea, the stories in the press about Romeo Lavia are absolutely not true. Chelsea are pleased with his talent and skills.”

“Of course he’s been unlucky with injuries but Chelsea are supporting Romeo, waiting for him, trusting his talent.

“Spreading negative stories with zero confirmation of that is not the best for the boy; there’s nothing in these stories at all.”

Lavia has a big future at Chelsea

Lavia was a significant investment made by Chelsea, and while they are the ones suffering from his injury problems, they are unlikely to sell him. The 20-year-old might be in a similar position to captain Reece James with the right-back’s persistent injury. Chelsea are reportedly looking for a new right back in Michael Kayode as they have doubts over James’ long-term fitness.

However, the Blues are not yet there with this level of thinking with Lavia, as they feel the Belgian could come good for the club in the coming period. While they are still patient with the 20-year-old, the same could wear thin if Lavia’s problems continue to develop in the background, which may not be the case at present.
