Arsenal, Chelsea have advantage in Jhon Duran chase, Barcelona not working on deal

Premier League giants Arsenal and Chelsea have a massive advantage in their race or the service of Jhon Duran.

According to Fabrizio Romano via CaughtOffside, Arsenal and Chelsea have a massive boosting their pursuit of Jhon Duran as Barcelona are not working on a deal to sign the Aston Villa attacking sensation.

Duran’s sensational rise at Aston Villa

Duran made the move to the Premier League at the start of 2023. While he started slowly, the young striker has only gone from strength to strength over the last 18 months.

He only got a limited amount of game time last season. But, the 20-year-old Colombian striker managed to make quite a name for himself. Now, he seems to have taken his game to the next level.

While he has yet to start a game in the Premier League this season, Duran has found the back of the net on four out of the five league outings. His consistent performances along with his massive potential have resulted in a significant amount of interest in him.

Barcelona’s interest in Jhon Duran

Barcelona are one of the clubs that have been linked with the young sensation. The Catalan giants might not be in the best of financial situation but that doesn’t stop them from exploring the market for young players who can help them in the long run.

Duran is quite high on the Spanish club’s wishlist as he seems to be a complete striker who will only get better with time. But, according to Romano, the Catalan club are not actively working on a deal to sign Duran.

While reports suggest that they are keen on his services, Barcelona are not making any moves to secure his services. They are not in contact with anybody to secure his services. But, that doesn’t rule them out from potentially trying to sign him next summer.

Romano on Duran being linked with a move to Barcelona: “Barca are not actively working on a deal for Jhon Duran now, absolutely. All the rest is speculation.

“We will see in summer 2025 but mentioning this story now it’s completely not true in the sense that Barca are not having contacts for this deal.

“Several Premier League clubs are monitoring his growth and in the summer Chelsea and then West Ham wanted him, but now he’s doing great for Villa so it’s a completely different story.”

Arsenal and Chelsea receive major boost

With the Catalan giants not actively pushing for his signature, Arsenal and Chelsea have a massive boost in their pursuit. The Gunners do not have enough firepower up top. Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus are not out-and-out strikers and Duran could be that x-factor striker that Mikel Arteta has been looking for.

While Nicolas Jackson seems to have hit top form this season, the Blues are still on the lookout for a new striker. Enzo Maresca seeks more options up top and the 20-year-old could be a great fit for the club. He perfectly fits into their transfer policy that revolves around signing the best young players.
