Liverpool are on the trail of Jeremie Frimpong ahead of next summer, as he could be viewed as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
According to Caught Offside, Liverpool retains an interest in Jeremie Frimpong ahead of the future. The Bayer Leverkusen star could emerge as a firm target for Arne Slot, significantly if Real Madrid-linked Trent Alexander-Arnold departs next season.
Liverpool are in a precarious position ahead of next summer, as a number of their critical stars could leave the club. Saudi Arabia could lure Alisson Becker on a lucrative contract, but the main concern is with the futures of star trio Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The latter’s future might be the most pressing need for the club in the context of the future, with the other two already on the wrong side of their thirties. With Real Madrid on the the right-back’s trail, Liverpool are sweating over the fact that the 25-year-old could potentially leave for nothing next summer.
They have had a few names on their list as a repalcement for the right-back, with Jeremie Frimpong one of their targets in that aspect. Liverpool were in contact with his camp and are aware of his ‘bargain’ £34 million release clause, something Levverkusen will demand in total to sell him.
Triggering that release clause should be of no problem to Liverpool, although their priority would be to keep Alexander-Arnold. If he does end up leaving, the £34 million-rated would be the ideal candidate, given his attacking prowess and overall profile.
Frimpong likely to leave Leverkusen
Frimpong had plenty of interest in the summer, but with Xabi Alonso deciding to stay, the Dutchman might have attached his future to the Spanish manager for now. Chelsea was keen on Frimpong but decided against a concrete approach as they had other areas to strengthen. Manchester United were reportedly offered the player, but again, they found another solution in Noussair Mazraoui, although the Dutchman remains a long-term target.
As for Frimpong, he would welcome the interest from Liverpool ahead of the future, as the player has ambitions to succeed elsewhere at a big club. The Merseysiders will strongly themselves to sign him if Alexander-Arnold leaves, although they face competition for the Leverkusen star’s signature.
