Barcelona might reportedly look to re-sign 23-year-old Spanish goalkeeper Arnau Tenas from Paris Saint-Germain in the January transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Arnau Tenas is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are scouring the market for an emergency cover for Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who has likely played his final game of the 2024/25 season after picking up a long-term knee injury this past week. The 23-year-old Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper has thus emerged as a target for the Blaugrana.
The Arnau Tenas tale
Arnau Tenas has remained a backup option despite leaving Barcelona last year. A native of Vic, the Spaniard spent his formative years in his homeland and graduated from Barcelona’s fabled La Masia division a few years ago. However, he reached his ceiling at the Catalan club with the Barcelona Atletic side.
Interestingly, the 23-year-old picked up a yellow card without making an appearance for the first team at FC Barcelona. Tenas left the Blaugrana as a free agent but has barely featured for Paris Saint-Germain since arriving in a Bosman move in July 2023. He has made only six appearances while keeping a clean sheet and conceding seven goals.
Meanwhile, Tenas was a part of the squad as Spain won the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics this past summer. However, the Spanish goalkeeper is eager to find a stable footing in his career, although Barcelona might offer him a way back to the club in the coming months.
Barcelona return on the horizon?
Barcelona’s interest in re-signing Arnau Tenas is understandable. The Catalan giants have likely lost Marc-Andre ter Stegen for the remainder of the 2024/25 season after the German shot-stopper picked up a long-term knee injury this past weekend against Villarreal.
While Inaki Pena will likely become the first-choice goalkeeper for the rest of the 2024/25 season, the Catalan giants want an alternative to the Spaniard. So, Pena’s former teammate has emerged as a target, with Barcelona considering re-signing Tenas from PSG in the winter transfer window.
It is unclear if PSG will entertain any bids to sell the 23-year-old Olympics 2024 gold medalist in the January transfer window. However, Arnau Tenas’s heart remains in Barcelona, and a move could see the light of day.
