Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City could face a mass exodus of players if they are found guilty of financial breaches.
According to a report from the Mirror, Manchester City could find themselves in a difficult position if they are found guilty of financial doping. They have been charged with a total of 115 offences and if things don’t according to plan for them they could be relegated from the Premier League.
City have been one of the most dominant forces in Europe since the arrival of Pep Guardiola. They have spent a fortune on player transfers and are home to some of the biggest stars in world football. Erling Haaland, Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden are only a few of the big names from City’s star-studded squad.
While they have had a lot of success on the pitch, things haven’t been that great for them off it. A total of 115 charges were laid against them at the start of 2023 following which their chief executive Ferran Soriano had gathered the playing staff and assured them that they could come out of it without any trouble.
But, things have got a lot more complicated as the case is not being heard by a panel made up of three eminent KCs. If the Manchester-based club are found guilty by the Independent Commission set up to investigate the charges, they could face serious sanctions.
City could find themselves in deep trouble
Guardiola’s team could be relegated from the Premier League and they could even be suspended from all competitions. The hearing is expected to last 10 weeks and if they fail to prove their innocence it could result in a mass exodus.
All their star players could end up parting ways with them. Multiple top clubs across Europe are keeping a close eye on their situation as they would love to make the most out of the situation and sign some of their stars. Real Madrid are one of the clubs that could make the most out of it as they are interested in the services of Rodri and have also been linked with Erling Haaland.
Bernardo Silva is on the wishlist of Barcelona and there will be no shortage of interest in Phil Foden’s services. Rival clubs are already making plans to sign their players but it seems City have provided assurances to their players via Guardiola that the hearing won’t lead to a disastrous outcome or a total collapse.
