Inter Milan keen on Ben Chilwell

Inter Milan are interested in acquiring the services of Chelsea outcast Ben Chilwell when the window reopens in January.

According to a report from Interlive, Inter Milan could look at Ben Chilwell as an option to reinforce their backline during the winter transfer window. While they are well covered at left-back, Simone Inzahgi’s team could look at the Chelsea outcast depending on how things unfold over the next months.

Chilwell came up the ranks and made a name for himself while playing for Leicester City. His consistent performances for the Foxes resulted in a move to Chelsea in the summer of 2020. The Blues forked out around €50 million to acquire his services. However, the report states that he could be available for €25 million in January.

While the English international was an important first-team player in the initial years, injuries and inconsistency have seen him go down the pecking order. He was their vice-captain last year but only made a limited number of appearances because of injury.

The arrival of Enzo Maresca hasn’t helped his cause and the 27-year-old doesn’t seem to be an important part of the Italian manager’s plans. While he still has close to three years left on his contract at Stamford Bridge, the Blues were keen on offloading him during the summer. The window might be over but their stance hasn’t changed.

Chelsea have a massive squad and there are quite a few players who are surplus to requirements. Chilwell is one of them and it is almost certain that he will leave the club in January. While there is interest in his services from clubs in England, Inter Milan have also emerged as a potential destination for the former Leicester defender.

Ben Chilwell to Inter Milan?

Simone Inzaghi’s Inter line up with a back three and Chilwell is someone who has grown up playing in a back four. He is not really an ideal fit for them but they still seem interested in his services. The report suggests intermediaries could offer his services to the Italian club.

But, a potential transfer will depend on quite a few factors. Firstly, Chelsea need to be open to an initial six-month loan. More importantly, Inter will only push for him if either Tajon Buchanan or Tomás Palacios fails to impress over the next months.

In such a situation, they could look at Chilwell as a player of absolute value as he has the experience and could try to adapt to a new role in a back three. The fact that his price has dropped to around €25 million is another massive reason why Inter could look at him to reinforce their backline.
