Bayern Munich best-placed to sign Jonathan Tah

Bayern Munich have emerged as front-runners in the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s centre-back Jonathan Tah, despite interest from Liverpool.

According to Bild via Fichajes, Bayern Munich are best-placed to acquire the services of Jonathan Tah who is expected to be a free agent next summer. The Bavarians want to reinforce their backline and the Bayer Leverkusen star is at the top of their wishlist.

The German centre-back is believed to have a pre-agreement in place with the Bundesliga giants who could offer him wages close to €9 million per season with another €3 million in variables.

Tah has been an integral part of the Leverkusen first team since the summer of 2015. He has gone from strength to strength over the years and has played a key role in all the success they have had.

The 28-year-old was one of their standout performers last season as they lifted the Bundesliga title unbeaten. His consistent performances for both club and country haven’t gone unnoticed and with his contract running out in 2025 multiple top clubs are keen on his signature.

Liverpool are one of the giants who have been linked with the German international. Virgil van Dijk is already 33 and his contract at the Merseyside club runs out in less than 10 months. As a result, the Reds are looking to bring in a world-class defender who can help replace him and they feel Tah could be a great option for them.

Meanwhile, the defender has been linked with Chelsea as well. The Blues could certainly use more quality and depth at the back, and the German international would be a quality acquisition.

Bayern Munich leading the race for Tah

While they are keen on his signature and have been linked with him for some time, the Reds are not in the best of positions to sign him. As per the report, Bayern Munich are the ones who have the best chance to sign Tah next summer.

The 28-year-old has already made a decision regarding his future at Leverusen. He doesn’t want to pen down an extension and is all set to leave the club as a free agent. Bayern who were keen on his signature during the summer still retain interest in his services.

Vincent Kompany is desperate to have more quality at the back and Tah’s experience as well as his abilities could come in handy. They already have a pre-agreement with the player and it seems the opportunity to continue in the Bundesliga is what has tipped the balance in favour of Bayern despite interest from top clubs across Europe.
