PSV Eindhoven will demand around €30-35 million to part ways with Jerdy Schouten, with Barcelona interested in the 27-year-old Dutch midfielder next year.
According to a report on Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing, Jerdy Schouten is the subject of interest from Barcelona. However, the PSV Eindhoven midfielder will not come cheap, with the 2023/24 Eredivisie champions demanding around €30-35 million to part ways with the 27-year-old.
The rise and rise of Jerdy Schouten
Jerdy Schouten has established himself as one of the best players in his homeland since joining PSV Eindhoven from Bologna in August 2023. The Dutchman graduated from the youth division at ADO Den Haag but rose in prominence during his four-year spell in Serie A with Bologna.
However, the 27-year-old hit the ground running at PSV Eindhoven after returning to the Netherlands last year, playing his part as the Red and Whites won the 2023/24 Eredivisie title. Schouten has turned out nearly 50 times thus far for PSV Eindhoven while chipping in with five goals.
In addition, the Dutch midfielder has become a mainstay in the middle of the park for the Netherlands in the last 12 months. Meanwhile, Jerdy Schouten’s exploits for his club and country have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Barcelona.
Barcelona want Schouten
Barcelona mulled over signing Jerdy Schouten in the summer transfer window but did not launch the offensive to secure his services. The continued interest in the Dutchman is understandable, considering the Catalan giants have failed to fill Sergio Busquets’s void since the veteran Spanish midfielder called time on his spell with the club last year.
Oriol Romeu came and went, failing to establish himself as a dependable holding midfield. Curiously, Andreas Christensen, a centre-back, has been Barcelona’s best defensive midfielder in the last 12 months. So, signing a natural holding midfielder is a necessity for Barcelona, with Schouten a viable target.
However, the 27-year-old Dutch midfielder will not come cheap, with PSV Eindhoven demanding around €30-35 million to part ways with him. While most high-profile clubs should have the funds to afford a deal worth €30-35 million for Schouten, Barcelona’s financial issues will complicate the move.
