Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham rival Chelsea in Geovany Quenda chase

Manchester United, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspur will compete with Chelsea in the battle for Sporting CP prodigy Geovany Quenda.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on HITC, Geovany Quenda is the subject of interest from Chelsea. However, the West London club’s Premier League rivals Manchester United, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on signing the Portuguese prodigy. Meanwhile, the teenage sensation has a release clause worth £84 million in his contract with Sporting CP.

Who is Geovany Quenda?

Geovany Quenda is the latest wonderkid to rise in prominence in his homeland. Several highly-rated prospects have recently made their mark in Portugal, with Joao Neves, Antonio Silva, and Andre Gomes among those to make their mark. However, Quenda has also seen his stock soar.

A native of Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, the 17-year-old began his youth career at Damaiense before spending a few years with SL Benfica. However, Quenda has graduated from the academy at Sporting CP, making his first-team bow at the onset of the 2024/25 season.

The Portuguese prodigy has already made seven appearances for Sporting CP this season, racking up 594 minutes of game time. So, it is hardly surprising that the teenager has emerged on the radars of high-profile clubs, including Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Tottenham. However, signing him will be a tall order, with his contract containing a release clause worth £84 million.

Premier League beckons?

Chelsea’s interest in Geovany Quenda is understandable. The Blues have prioritised signing every world-class prospect they can land under the current ownership. So, highly-rated prodigies like Kendry Paez and Estevao Willian have already joined Chelsea, with Quenda the latest target. As for Manchester United, they have an elite academy that produces top-notch footballers, with the latest being Kobbie Mainoo.

So, Manchester United might be an attractive destination for the Portuguese prodigy. Meanwhile, Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad produces a truckload of world-class talent, with Phil Foden and Oscar Bobb among the notable graduates. As for Tottenham, they might view Quenda as the long-term right-wing solution.

So, an intense battle for Geovany Quenda’s signature might be on the cards, with Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Tottenham vying for his services. It will be interesting to see if the Premier League bigwigs are ready to cough up £84 million to land him.
