Chelsea are prepared to offload Axel Disasi in January, despite having forked out €45 million to sign him last summer.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Chelsea will look to offload quite a few of their players when the transfer window reopens in January. Axel Disasi is one of the names on that list. The French centre-back is not an important part of Enzo Maresca’s plans, and they are willing to sanction his departure if a suitable offer arrives.
Disasi made quite a name for himself during his three-year-long spell at AS Monaco. His consistent performances for the French club convinced the Blues that he could play an important part in their plans. They ended up forking out €45 million to bring him to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2023.
Since joining the West London club, the 26-year-old centre-back has featured in a total of 47 matches. 44 of those appearances came in his debut campaign, where he was the go-to man at the back for Mauricio Pochettino.
But, it seems the French international has gone down the pecking order under new boss Enzo Maresca. He started both of their Europa Conference League qualifying fixtures but has only featured in one out of their first four league outings.
Disasi still has quite a few years left in him, and he could play an integral part in their first team. But, it seems Maresca does not consider him to be a key player. As a result, the Blues have been open to sanctioning his departure after adopting the stance this past summer.
Chelsea to sell Disasi to balance their books?
Chelsea have spent a fortune on player transfers in the last two years. The Blues are finding it difficult to balance their books and since they have a massive squad, they are looking to offload players who are not important to their plans.
During the recently concluded transfer window, the Blues spent £220 million on new signings. But they managed to balance things out a touch by generating around £147 million from player sales as Conor Gallagher, Romelu Lukaku, Ian Maatsen, Omari Hutchinson and seven others left the club.
But, Chelsea still need to offload a few more players to ensure they do not breach any financial regulations. As a result, the Blues are planning to offload several fringe players in the winter, and Axel Disasi is one of them. But, they will only do that if they receive a decent offer.
