Barcelona, Manchester United, Newcastle United retain Ederson interest

Barcelona, Manchester United, and Newcastle United are reportedly still interested in signing 25-year-old Brazilian international Ederson from Atalanta.

According to a report by TNT Sports, Barcelona, Manchester United, and Newcastle United have retained their interest in Atalanta midfielder Ederson despite failing to secure his services in the summer transfer window. Excitement surrounds the Brazilian international, who will make his UEFA Champions League bow this week against Arsenal.

Ederson and his Serie A journey so far

Ederson has been one of the best midfielders in Serie A since joining Atalanta from Salernitana in July 2022. The South American midfielder has only been in Europe for 30 months but has already made his mark for La Dea. He has been a mainstay in the middle of the park for Atalanta, with his exploits earning him his Brazil debut earlier this year.

The 25-year-old played a leading role as Atalanta won the UEFA Europa League trophy last term. The player has turned out nearly 100 times thus far for the Italian club while chipping in with eight goals and three assists. Meanwhile, Ederson’s exploits for his club and country have not gone unnoticed, alerting high-profile clubs like Barcelona, Manchester United, and Newcastle United.

A man in demand

Barcelona mulled over signing the Atalanta midfielder in the summer transfer window before deciding against a deal. The Catalan giants are still keen on signing the Brazilian international, who can be the long-term successor to Sergio Busquets, who has left a gaping hole in the midfield department.

Meanwhile, Manchester United also pondered over signing Ederson from Atalanta before zeroing in on Manuel Ugarte as the first-choice striker. However, the Red Devils remain interested in the South American midfielder, whose versatility makes him an appealing target.

As for Newcastle United, the Magpies are considering signing a midfielder next year amid widespread speculation surrounding Bruno Guimaraes. While the Brazilian remains committed to Newcastle United, European bigwigs are scouring for his signature.

So, the Atalanta midfielder is an option worth considering for Newcastle United. The report does not mention a price tag to secure Ederson’s services. So, it will be interesting to see where the 25-year-old Brazilian international plies his trade next year.
