West Ham United could be ready to make a late attempt to cash in on attacking duo Danny Ings and Michail Antonio in January.
According to Football Insider, West Ham United are eager to cash in on attacking duo Michail Antonio and Danny Ings when the January window opens. The chances of the club getting a decent fee are low given those players will have only six months left on their existing contracts then, which makes up for a tricky situation.
West Ham wants to sell Danny Ings and Michail Antonio
Julen Lopetegui will feel the club’s transfer business was incomplete despite a raft of critical signings coming through the door. From signing key central defenders to bringing in fresh midfield reinforcements, West Ham also signed Niclas Fullkrug as their new striker, but they still need to get rid of their ageing options.
Michail Antonio had late interest from Fulham but could not move to the fellow London side and has entered the final—year of his deal. The Jamaican striker will be 35 when the current season ends, and there’s a likelihood that this will be his final campaign with the Hammers. The club are eager to cash in on him in January, hoping to get a decent fee in return.
The Hammers are also keen to sell Danny Ings, 32, in the same window, although after the summer window closed, Lopetegui was ready to hand him a lifeline. The attacking duo have not been convincing since the new season began, as West Ham are eager to look past them and bring in long-term replacements.
They may be able to get a decent fee in return during the January window, although they will be more than eager to get their wages off the books. Either way, the future of the attacking duo at the London Stadium seems to be over at this point, and while the Fullkrug seems like someone who could become Lopetegui’s starting striker soon, the German does look like a short-to-mid-term option.
West Ham keen on a new striker
West Ham is prioritising a new striker in 2025, which could accelerate if they can manage to offload Antonio and Ings in January. The Hammers were keen to sign Jhon Duran all summer and eventually failed to make an offer that Aston Villa deemed suitable for the Colombian.
They also had late links to Tammy Abraham before he made his switch to AC Milan. This link, in particular, showed that the Hammers were keen to add another striker in this window, although having four senior centre-forwards even until January might have proved unsustainable from a financial standpoint.
