Chelsea could push to strike a deal with Napoli for the services of their top target Victor Osimhen when the transfer window reopens in January.
According to a report from Football Insider, Chelsea could look to reignite their interest in the services of Victor Osimhen in the winter transfer window. The Blues wanted to bring in a new number nine during the recently concluded transfer window, the Napoli ace was at the top of their wishlist.
But, they couldn’t strike a deal with the Italian giants who wanted a fortune to sell their Nigerian ace. While the move collapsed and he ended up joining Galatasaray on a season-long loan, Napoli have a break clause in his deal which allows them to cut short his spell in Turkiye and sanction a permanent departure in the winter. As a result, the Blues could return for his services at the start of 2025.
Osimhen became the talk of the town following a heroic 2022/23 season while he didn’t live up to the expectations last season, there was a significant amount of interest in his services during the summer. Chelsea were at the forefront of the race to sign the 25-year-old.
Chelsea could return for Osimhen in the winter
The Blues wanted to bring in a world-class striker to solve their problems up top. Osimhen was their priority target but the London club played the waiting game in hopes that their Italian counterpart would lower their demands. Unfortunately, they couldn’t agree on terms with Napoli.
The former LOSC Lille star was keen on leaving the Naples-based club. He no longer had the best of relations with the people at the club and was not in the plans of Antonio Conte. As a result, he ended up joining Galatasaray on a season-long loan to ensure he plays regular first-team football.
The move to Turkiye suggested that the Blues might not be able to sign him until the summer of 2025. But, recent reports have revealed that Napoli have inserted a break clause in the loan spell. They can call their star striker back to the club in the winter to sanction a permanent departure.
Thanks to the break clause, Chelsea are considering making a move for the 25-year-old in the winter. He will only have 18 months left on his deal with the Italian outfit, as a result, there could be a slight drop in his price tag. The Blues will have a realistic chance to sign him in January and they could be tempted having missed out on him during the summer.
