Real Madrid uninterested in breaking the bank to sign Rodri

Real Madrid will not pay through their nose to land Manchester City star Rodri, who is valued at €100 million.

Real Madrid have no intentions of breaking the bank to sign Manchester City’s Spanish midfielder Rodri, despite some speculation about his future. According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid view signing Rodri as “impossible” unless a highly unlikely scenario unfolds—Manchester City being severely sanctioned and relegated by the Premier League.

Rodri, considered one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe, would only become a viable option for Real Madrid if Manchester City were relegated and forced to sell their top players. Such a scenario would allow Real Madrid to potentially acquire him for a significantly reduced transfer fee or even on a free transfer, similar to how they secured the services of David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger in recent years.

Real Madrid’s Transfer Strategy and Financial Constraints

As things stand, Real Madrid are unwilling to spend the €100 million or more that Manchester City would demand for the 28-year-old. The club’s current transfer philosophy prioritizes younger talent or players who become available at a low cost, making an expensive move for Rodri, who is nearing 29, highly unlikely. While Los Blancos have shown interest in elite players like Rodri, they are not willing to pay exorbitant fees, especially for a player of his age.

This stance reflects Real Madrid’s broader strategy, where they have typically avoided high-risk financial deals unless they involve a younger player or a unique opportunity like those seen with Alaba and Rüdiger. As a result, Rodri is not currently in Real Madrid’s plans, and any potential move would only materialize under extraordinary circumstances.

Rodri Unlikely to Join Real Madrid

Real Madrid’s interest in Rodri remains speculative and highly conditional on Manchester City’s future. While Rodri would undoubtedly strengthen Real Madrid’s midfield, the club’s unwillingness to spend a large transfer fee for a player approaching his late 20s means this transfer is improbable. Unless an unexpected situation arises, such as a City relegation, Real Madrid will likely continue to pursue more financially sound and younger options for their squad-building efforts.
