Cesare Casadei frozen out at Chelsea by Enzo Maresca

Premier League heavyweights Chelsea have reportedly assigned 21-year-old Italian midfield prospect Cesare Casadei to their ‘bomb’ squad.

According to a report by Football Insider, Cesare Casadei does not have a long-term future at Chelsea. Enzo Maresca has decided that the 21-year-old midfield prospect is not in his plans, with the Italian tactician assigning his compatriot to the ‘bomb’ squad. So, he will spend the 2024/25 season away from the first-team setup.

Cesare Casadei and his Chelsea woes

Cesare Casadei was widely considered as one of the best midfield prospects in the world when he joined Chelsea from Inter Milan in August 2022. A native of Ravenna, he spent his formative years with three Italian clubs and graduated from the youth division at Inter Milan.

Several high-profile clubs wanted to sign Casadei before Chelsea beat the intense competition to his signature two years ago. However, the 21-year-old has been one of several victims of the West London club’s infamous hoarding policy. So, the youngster has managed only 71 minutes of game time across 11 appearances in all competitions thus far for Chelsea.

Casadei embarked on two short loan spells away from Chelsea in the last two seasons, with Enzo Maresca using him regularly at Leicester City last term. However, Maresca has frozen the Italian youth international from the first-team squad at Chelsea, with the West London outfit assigning him to the ‘bomb’ squad.

What next?

Reports in July suggested that Chelsea told Cesare Casadei to find a new club. However, the young midfield prospect was not a target for many teams, and Turkish outfits did not show interest in him ahead of Friday’s summer transfer deadline either.

Chelsea considered offering Casadei in the deal to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli. However, a move did not see the light of day. The 21-year-old midfielder will now spend the first half of the 2024/25 season away from the first-team squad at Chelsea, with Maresca freezing him out of the picture.

The Italian whizkid would have had many aspirations when he joined Chelsea from Inter Milan two years ago. However, Cesare Casadei’s spell with the West London club will end in a whimper after barely featuring for the first team.
