Premier League heavyweights Arsenal are reportedly mulling over signing 22-year-old Dutch striker Brian Brobbey from Ajax in the January transfer window.
According to a report by Caught Offside, Brian Brobbey is the subject of interest from Arsenal. The Gunners are keen on signing a striker in the January transfer window and have identified their targets. Jonathan David is their priority option, but the 22-year-old Ajax centre-forward also features on their wishlist.
Brian Brobbey and his rollercoaster career
Brian Brobbey has resurrected his stuttering career since rejoining Ajax from RB Leipzig in 2022. The Dutchman spent his formative years in his homeland and graduated from the youth division at Ajax. He rose in prominence during his first spell with the Eredivisie giants before RB Leipzig snapped him in the 2021 summer transfer window.
However, the 22-year-old barely made his mark for RB Leipzig before returning to Ajax on loan in January 2022. The Dutch giants completed a permanent move in July 2022, and Brobbey has gone from strength to strength since then. The youngster contributed to 34 goals in 43 outings in the 2023/24 season by finding the back of the net 22 times and providing 12 assists.
Brobbey has been decent in the early stages of the 2024/25 campaign, although he has scored only once thus far in six appearances. Meanwhile, the Dutch striker’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs, especially in the Premier League. Arsenal might look to sign him in the winter transfer window.
London calling?
Arsenal mulled over signing Brian Brobbey in the summer transfer window before a move failed to materialise. While a summer deal did not see the light of day, the Ajax striker remains on the North London club’s wishlist after parting ways with Eddie Nketiah on the deadline day.
With Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz the only strikers in the Arsenal squad, the North London club should sign a centre-forward in the January transfer window. Brobbey is thus a viable target for Arsenal.
However, the Gunners will prioritise a winter move for Jonathan David after contacting his representatives, with Brobbey the other name on their wishlist. It will be interesting to see which striker arrives at the Emirates in the winter transfer window.
