Jonathan Tah open to Premier League move amid Liverpool links

Liverpool handed a major boost in their pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen defensive ace Jonathan Tah amidst interest from Barcelona.

Liverpool’s long-drawn search for a new centre-back continues and Jonathan Tah has emerged as a top target for the Merseyside club. According to a report from Sport Bild via Paisley Gates, the Reds have received a major boost in their pursuit as the player is keen open to a move to the Premier League.

Tah has been a part of the Bayer Leverkusen first team since the summer of 2015. He has been one of their mainstays in recent seasons and played a big part in their historic Bundesliga triumph last season. They not only ended Bayern Munich’s dominance but did it by remaining unbeaten.

While the German international continues to be an integral part of Xabi Alonso’s first team, his future at the club is quite uncertain. The 28-year-old’s contract runs out in around 10 months. While Leverkusen will try to extend his stay, he has made it quite clear that he is not interested in an extension.

Tah seeks a new challenge and there is no shortage of interest in his services. Barcelona are one of the clubs that have been linked with the German centre-back. The Catalan giants explored the possibility of signing him towards the end of the summer window. But, they couldn’t strike a deal for his services.

They remain keen on having him in their squad and with the £25 million rated star available for free in less than a year, the Spanish giants will surely try to lure him to the club. But, they will face a lot of competition for his signature and Liverpool will be the biggest headache for them.

Liverpool to push for Tah next summer

The Reds have been looking to reinforce their backline for some time. Despite all their efforts, they haven’t been able to bring in a top-quality centre-back. While Jarrel Quansah’s emergence has helped their cause, they desperately need a new defender as they do not have enough depth in that area.

Liverpool didn’t make enough effort to sign a centre-back in the summer. But, it seems they are keen on signing Jonathan Tah who has been linked with them for months. The Reds are lining up a move for the 28-year-old next summer.

With Virgil van Dijk heading into the final phase of his career and his contract running out at the end of the season, they feel Tah could be the perfect replacement in the short term. They have a massive boost in their pursuit as he is open to a move to the Premier League and is considering making the move to Anfield.
