Goztepe agree deal to sign David Datro Fofana from Chelsea

Chelsea vs FC Noah: Preview and Prediction.

Turkish outfit Goztepe have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign their young forward David Datro Fofana on a season-long loan.

According to Fabrizio Romano, David Datro Fofana is all set to leave Chelsea before the end of the transfer window in Turkiye. While the Ivorian striker’s move to AEK Athens collapsed, Goztepe have provided him with a way out of Stamford Bridge as they have agreed on a deal with the Blues to sign the youngster on loan.

Fofana made a name for himself at Molde FK before securing a move to Chelsea at the start of 2023. While there was a lot of hype about the 21-year-old striker, he hasn’t been able to get going at the London club.

He has only featured in four matches for the first team and spent the 2023/24 season out on loan at Union Berlin and Burnley. Unfortunately, he couldn’t do much during his time away from the club.

The former Molde ace returned to his parent club in the summer and he still has five years left on his contract. But, Enzo Maresca doesn’t count on him. The young striker is not a part of his plans and the club had informed the youngster to look for a new club quite early in the window.

Unfortunately, the 21-year-old couldn’t secure a move away from Stamford Bridge while the transfer window in Europe was still open. But, it seemed he was on the verge of leaving the club a few days back as AEK Athens had a total agreement in place with the Blues.

Goztepe agreed deal to sign Fofana

But the move to the Greek outfit collapsed and Fofana ended up staying. With the window in Greece over, Turkiye was the only potential destination for the former Molde striker and Goztepe recently emerged as a potential destination.

The Super Lig outfit want to reinforce their attack and they feel the Chelsea forward could help their cause. They were in talks with the Blues and have managed to strike a deal to sign him on a season-long loan.

The Turkish club will have the option to buy the 21-year-old following the end of his loan spell next summer. But, the London club also have an option to bring him back to the club in the winter if needed.
