Chelsea and Tottenham are reportedly leading the race for the services of €40 million-rated Danish defensive sensation Patrick Dorgu.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness, Chelsea and Tottenham are both keen on acquiring the service of Patrick Dorgu, who has made quite a name for himself with his performances for club and country.
Dorgu came up the ranks at Danish club FC Nordsjaelland before making the move to Italy in the summer of 2022 to join Lecce. He started with their Under-19 team and was promoted to their first team last summer.
The 19-year-old had an exceptional debut campaign where he was involved in 34 matches. While the majority of his appearances came as a left-sided full-back, Dorgu’s ability to feature in any role on either flank along with his huge potential has not gone unnoticed.
The teenager recently made his debut for the Denmark national team and marked the occasion with a goal. There was a significant amount of interest in his services during the summer. But, Lecce managed to keep hold of the Danish sensation whose €30 million valuation was considered to be a touch on the higher side by interested clubs.
Tottenham and Chelsea keen on signing Dorgu
While none of the interested clubs struck a deal with the Serie A outfit in the recently concluded window, Tottenham and Chelsea have emerged as potential destinations for the youngster. But, they will now have to fork out around €40 million as the 19-year-old’s valuation has increased because of his exceptional performance and his international debut.
While Lecce are pushing for a contract renewal, both English clubs are considering making a move in the near future. Tottenham pushed hard for him during the summer, and they have retained their interest in the youngster. Having spent a significant amount on signing young players with potential under Ange Postecoglou, Dorgu seems to be just the perfect fit for them.
Tottenham are one of the front-runners for his services, but Chelsea are also ready to revive their interest in the youngster. The Blues’ new project is all about signing the best young players, and Dorgu could be an exceptional addition to their squad because of his versatility. They have reportedly made him their priority target for the winter.
