Manchester City keen on signing a striker in January

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are reportedly preparing to sign a new striker when the transfer window reopens in January.

According to a report from Football Insider, Manchester City could push hard to bring in a new striker in the winter transfer window. Pep Guardiola’s side took a cautious approach in the recently concluded transfer window. But they may be poised for a major move in January following a relatively quiet summer.

Manchester City have been the most dominant English club in recent years. They have won the Premier League four years in a row and even managed to secure their first Champions League title. While they have a star-studded squad, the Citizens are always on the lookout for opportunities to further bolster it.

But, Manchester City were not as active this summer as they normally are. City only made two signings, as they brought in Savinho, and Barcelona’s financial crisis allowed them to re-sign their former skipper Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer.

While they only signed two players, Guardiola’s team parted ways with Julian Alvarez, Joao Cancelo, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Sergio Gomez, Tommy Doyle, and Kalvin Phillips. After having raised around £160 million in the summer, Manchester City could now go big in the winter depending on injuries and how things pan out in the title race.

Manchester City to sign a new striker in January

With Alvarez leaving the club to join Atletico Madrid in a deal worth £82 million, Manchester City are left with just one out-and-out striker in Erling Haaland. While Phil Foden and James McAtee could reprise the false nine-role, they do lack depth up top in attack.

Pep Guardiola’s team could go hard to bring in a new world-class striker to reinforce his attack. They could look for someone who can cover for Haaland and eventually take over as the number one, with the former Borussia Dortmund star constantly linked with a move to Real Madrid despite being in contact talks.

While Manchester City will look to add quality to quite a few areas as Guardiola could be handed a significant budget, bringing in a new striker will be the top priority for them. It will be interesting to see which players they end up targeting.
